Gibson USA’s SG Zoot Suit: It’s A Real Toe Tapper, Daddy-O

Gibson Guitar, the world’s premier musical instrument maker and leader in music technology, and Steve Perry of the veteran Ska band Cherry Poppin’ Daddies are making a Zoot Suit music riot. Universally recognized for the hit single “Zoot Suit Riot”, Steve Perry of the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies is now jiving away on his own Gibson SG Zoot Suit guitar. As one of the newest releases from world renown Gibson USA, the SG Zoot Suit guitar has made quite a colorful statement to guitarists and music-fans alike with its unique and radical appearance. Steve Perry plans to perform with his brand new guitar in front of skanking crowds everywhere while the band tours in support their upcoming album release Skaboy JFK: the Skankin' hits of the Cherry Poppin' Daddies.

“Zoot Suit Riot”, which is currently featured on the Gibson Zoot Suit guitar product page at http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/SG/Gibson-USA/SG-Zoot-Suit/Overview.aspx, helped to propel the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies to international fame and multi-platinum sales. On September 29, 2009 Space Age Bachelor Pad Records along with Rock Ridge, ADA will release Skaboy JFK: the Skankin' hits of the Cherry Poppin' Daddies, in celebration of the bands 20th year in the music business. Like their 1998 multi-platinum smash Zoot Suit Riot, the new album will emphasize one genre, Ska. Skaboy will combine four new recordings with tracks from the groups earlier catalogue, reflecting all the waves and varieties Ska has to offer.

The new Gibson Zoot Suit SG guitar is the ultimate for stage style and playability. The word “Zoot” is jazz slang meaning extravagant style to which this guitar encapsulates. At first glance, one might think that the unique coloration of the Zoot Suit guitar is simply a clever paint scheme. Incredibly though, there is no paint used on the guitar. Featuring a brand new body built with multiple birch wood laminate, each laminate piece is dyed with a different color then compressed and bonded together to form one solid block of wood. Two coats of satin lacquer are then applied to provide a smooth finish and also help protect the body from any damage. Other catchy characteristics of the SG Zoot Suit guitar include the multicolored neck of the Zoot Suit that also constructed using multiple birch wood laminate pieces, and Gibson’s legendary 496R and 500T pickups, which feature clear coil forms to see the copper wire, ceramic magnets, and plenty of wire for the screaming' hot pickups.

The Gibson SG Zoot Suit comes in five extraordinary colorful combinations: Rainbow, Black and Red, Black and White, Black and Natural, and Red and Blue. This guitar is one of 2009’s most standout and exciting guitars and produced in limited quantity.
