Des Moines Arts Festival Announces Free Live Entertainment Line-up

The following is a Press Release for the Des Moines Arts Festival.

05/30/2008 DES MOINES, Iowa
An exciting and diverse line-up of non-stop FREE entertainment will be yet another highlight of the Des Moines Arts Festival on June 27-29, 2008, in downtown Des Moines’ Western Gateway Park. As it begins its second decade, Iowa’s award-winning three-day celebration of the arts entices guests with a variety of Cultural Sweets that includes free stage entertainment and live street theatre.

Stimulate your senses with a variety of performing arts including music, dance, theatre, magic and comedy showcased throughout the three-day weekend on the U.S. Cellular Stage, Meredith Corporation Stage and Performing Arts Stage. Headliners include local favorites and more like Public Property, Lady Blue, Swing Crew and The Josh Davis Band.

To kick things off, the Festival has teamed up with Iowa Public Radio to present LIVE! Load-In Thursday on June 26 from 7-8:30 p.m. at famed Blues on Grand featuring breakout blues guitarist Mike Zito. Iowa Public Radio will broadcast live on WOI 90.1 FM and KUNI 101.7 FM and admission is free.

On Friday, join Public Property as they take the U.S. Cellular Stage at 8 p.m. Started in 2003, Public Property seamlessly jumps from roots reggae to gospel reggae, ska to hip-hop infused funk, to rock and back to reggae. Headlining on the Meredith Corporation Stage on Friday night is Swing Crew. Their crazy antics and variety of country, swing, island beat, rockabilly, rock-and-roll and humorous collection of novelty tunes is a perfect recipe for fun.

Saturday features another 12 hours of non-stop entertainment. The day opens with the Des Moines Art Center’s Nurturing a Student’s Vision Awards Ceremony, sponsored by Hubbell Homes, on the Performing Arts Stage at 10:15 a.m. The day wraps up with Gumbohead, The Josh Davis Band, Matt Woods and the Thunderbolts, and Lady Blue.

The stages are not the only place to be entertained as Mercy Medical Center-Des Moines presents live street theatre. Performers roaming the streets of the Festival site include Bill Robison, Creations with a Twist, Janet Rayor’s Dancing Stilts, Mundus, Project Dynamite, Reggie Greenlaw, Roberto the Magnificent, Swing Crew and the Shakespeare Center.
