Finding a good teacher is essential, especially for beginners. Playing well and teaching well are separate skills. Just because someone can play guitar doesn't automatically mean they have the proper skills to teach guitar. Before you commit to a teacher, you may want to ask for a trial lesson to make sure you're happy with the communications skills and the teaching method the instructor provides. If you're not learning from someone who knows how to teach, you may have a difficult time.
