UK Study Shows Gaming Leads to Music Making

Dy-sphoric sent this to me. It's an interesting post about how research has shown that up to 2.5 million children have picked up guitars and drums after playing music-themed video games.

In the study the UK Times suggests that research by one of Britain's largest music charities suggests that the popularity of active music titles such as Guitar Hero and Rock Band have prompted up to 2.5 million children to learn the instruments for real.

I find this interesting due to the great debate of whether game systems like Guitar Hero or Rock Band are hindering the next generation of musicians. I would have to say that this study does give me a new perspective on the whole thing. If the game systems are actually creating a desire to learn how to play instruments then maybe they aren't such a bad thing after all.

Nice picture...

However, not in my house...
It will proceed like this: "Put that game down son and pick up your guitar...or sit in time-out!!!"

Son's reply: "can I talk to you"... He's only 3.

If those statistics are based on UK data, I can honestly say the results wouldn't be the same in the USA, I imagine the numbers would be quite lower, as we here in the USA tend to keep our children no farther than the tv, seeing as the tv makes a convenient parent. LOL

Stats no less, they give me hope for these kind of games.
