But I do play a lot & I sweat when I play at a gig or sometimes when I play at home & this makes a massive difference. The other factor you need to consider is what has been said above do you like the sound of worn out strings? That being said it is still important that you don't let them wear out too much because they will start to sound badAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8321420608103781572.post-10935584719898516082010-09-07T10:20:34.149-04:002010-09-07T10:20:34.149-04:00Nice Matt, thanks for the additional article.Nice Matt, thanks for the additional article.Sargehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08185608278828850113noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8321420608103781572.post-89403936724635312152010-07-22T18:31:39.729-04:002010-07-22T18:31:39.729-04:00You basically summed it up. When I started playing I thought there was like a number of hours of play or number of weeks after which you should change your strings but over time you realize that you just change your strings when you dont like the way they sound anymore.

Personally on my acoustic guitar I prefer that softer tone of a set of broken-in guitar strings. But on my electric I like to change them all the time to keep that bright sound.

A few years ago I wrote a post on the same topic on my blog.
