PRS Guitars Releases New SE Santana

PRS Guitars’ is happy to announce the official launch of the SE Santana. Carlos Santana’s new signature model is the very first SE offered with a 24.5” scale length and is also the first SE created using the same silhouette as Carlos’s revered American-made model. Look for the model on retail shelves this fall and on tour with Carlos as he tours the US in support of his new album “Guitar Heaven: The Greatest Guitar Classics of All Time.”

Carlos’s influence as a PRS guitar player led to the development of the SE electric guitar series ten years ago, and he continues to play an integral role as an advisor, player, and endorser for one of the world’s most well-respected guitar brands. In honor this legacy, PRS welcomes players of all backgrounds and skill levels to visit a dealer this fall to try this guitar in person. The SE is an extremely versatile product line, and the value and quality continue to receive the industry’s praises year after year.

“It is very important for PRS and Carlos to offer this high quality Santana model in a financially accessible price point. This SE Santana offers musicians an instrument well in excess of its price tag,” commented Paul Reed Smith.

SE Santana features include a carved maple top, flamed maple top veneer, mahogany back, 22-fret one-piece “wide-fat” mahogany neck, rosewood fretboard with white perloid, old style PRS bird inlays. Electonics include treble and bass humbucking pickups, master volume and tone, three-way toggle switch, PRS tuners, and PRS tremolo.

PRS’s New Contoured Body 3-Pickup Models

PRS Guitars’ newest three-pickup electric guitars, the DC3 and the NF3, feature proprietary PRS pickups and PRS's all new flat body shape for a classic look and sound. Both models also come standard with PRS’s new retro “V12” finish, “Pattern Regular” neck shape, and a PRS Tremolo bridge system with steel components that give a clear and expansive tone.

The DC3 is a modernized, vintage inspired three single-coil pickup guitar with an alder body. Its three proprietary PRS DC3 single-coil pickups are based on PRS’s award wining 513 platform and give the DC3 a warm, clear tone. The NF3 introduces a korina body and three proprietary Narrowfield™ pickups. Narrowfields™ use the same wire as 57/08s™, but are narrower pole to pole and deeper front to back, providing exceptional clarity. Both models combine a three-pickup configuration with a five-way blade switch to provide a multitude of sounds, and both feature bolt-on necks, 3-ply pickguards, and mounted electronics.
Other appointments shared by the DC3 and NF3 models include 22 frets, 25.25” scale length, maple neck and fretboard with rosewood option, “Pattern Regular” neck shape, ring dot inlays, PRS low mass locking tuners, nickel hardware with gold option, and volume and tone controls.

Gibson Guitar Releases The Chad Kroeger "Blackwater" Les Paul

It's a mean-looking, hot-sounding contemporary Les Paul, the Chad Kroeger "Blackwater" Les Paul comes disguised as a traditional single-cutaway Standard with all the appointments that have made this guitar legendary for more than 50 years, but hides some simple yet clever surprises that expand its sonic capabilities exponentially. In addition to its traditional magnetic humbucking pickups, a GraphTech™ Ghost® piezo bridge and related electronics provide an authentic acoustic guitar sound that can be used entirely on its own, patched parallel to the magnetic pickups through two amps, or blended with the traditional tone. Roll from atmospheric ballad to rock anthem at the twist of a knob, or craft your own new tones that blend elements of both.

With its killer hand-stained Trans Black AAA-flame maple top and unique trim package – featuring a truss-rod cover engraved with "Blackwater" in silver – the Chad Kroeger "Blackwater" Les Paul looks as unique as it sounds, too. Plus, it features Kroeger’s own idea of adding white star decals along the upper back fretboard, aligned with the standard fret markers, which allow you to see where your hand is positioned when playing on a darkened stage.

A Look At Taylor Guitars Fall Limited Additions

News Release from Taylor Guitars

EL CAJON, Calif. - September 23, 2010 - On par with many of fall's familiar traditions, Taylor Guitars is readying one of its own - the release of its anticipated Fall Limited Edition models. This year's Limiteds embody the extraordinary on several fronts: premium tonewoods led by figured mahogany and koa; new designs that include a deep-body Dreadnought and 12-fret Grand Auditorium; and fresh inlay concepts such as the "Twist," "Pipeline," and a laser-engraved Victorian motif. Taylor's electric line also yields a seasonal ode with an all-mahogany SolidBody Classic and T3/B that celebrate a vintage era.

The GS Mahogany-LTD showcases a limited reserve (75 sets) of beautifully flamed mahogany that was harvested from hurricane blowdown. The guitar incorporates striking ebony accents in the form of a back mini-wedge, binding, backstrap and an ultra-premium beveled armrest. The armrest's elegant contouring softens the edge where the top meets the sides on the bass side of the lower bout, and blends comfort, functionality and aesthetic appeal. Unique appointments include an abstract "Twist" inlay design from Taylor's Larry Breedlove, which spirals and wraps between the 7th and 12th frets. Another premium touch on the Sitka spruce top is Adirondack spruce bracing, whose extra elasticity pairs with Taylor's proprietary CV bracing pattern to add sweetness and warmth to the guitar's tones.

The 800 Series Limiteds are distinguished by modified body designs such as the 810e-LTD, a non-cutaway, deep-body Dreadnought that yields a deeper, more robust tone, and the 814ce-LTD, a 12-fret Grand Auditorium that offers an extra-rich voice. Also exclusive to this year's Limiteds, the 816ce-LTD sports a Florentine cutaway, while the 812ce-LTD incorporates a slotted peghead (normally offered on Taylor's GC8 model). All 800 Series LTDs feature the classic pairing of Indian rosewood back and sides with a Sitka spruce top, along with Taylor's CV bracing. Appointments include white binding, a design touch from years past, and the new Engraved Victorian inlay, which is laser-cut and etched from mother-of-pearl.

Fans of Hawaiian koa will appreciate the 500 Series Limiteds (510ce-LTD, 512ce-LTD, 514ce-LTD, 516ce-LTD), which boast exotic koa backs and sides and a new Pipeline fretboard inlay. Inspired by the shores of Hawaii, the Pipeline depicts a circular wave fret marker design. The models also include a 3-ring koa fishbone rosette and Indian rosewood binding. Each of the 500 Series Limiteds is topped with Sitka spruce.

Two all-mahogany electric models also join the Fall LTDs: the SolidBody Classic SB-X-LTD and the T3/B-LTD. On the SolidBody Classic, the neck and body were milled from the same mahogany boards to create a perfect visual match. Both models include a traditional mahogany stain and vintage alnico humbuckers. For the Classic, the humbuckers are set against a parchment pickguard, while parchment binding outlines the T3/B-LTD. A Bigsby vibrato tailpiece and brilliant chrome hardware adorn the T3 for a ready-to-rock look that screams electric, vintage and cool.

Each of the Fall Limiteds comes with Taylor's popular Expression System® pickup and in a hardshell case. The Limiteds are now available at domestic Taylor dealers.   For additional details about the Fall Limiteds, please visit: http://www.taylorguitars.com/guitars/limiteds/Fall2010/

Alex Skolnick Trio/Rodrigp y Gabriela Tour Cancelled Due To Gabriela's Joint Pain

It's never an easy decision to cancel or postpone a tour. Such a decision has recently come to light for the dynamic guitarist Gabriela Quintero, half of the Rodrigo y Gabriela Duo set to start their U.S. Tour with support from The Alex Skolnick Trio.

In a press release the guitar team stated, "After a year of relentless touring, the wear and tear finally caught up with Gabriela. Her incredibly physical style of play involves banging out complex rhythms on the neck and body of her guitar night after night, putting great stress upon her right hand and arm as well as joints like the wrist and elbow. It is under doctors recommendation that she rest her joints and muscles to avoid further harm and permanent damage."

It's a frustrating situation and the duo is anxious to reschedule dates and get back on tour as soon as possible. We at Rock House wish Gabriela a speedy recovery.

Rob Balducci's Lick Of The Week - Showing Off His New Ibanez RGA

I was glad to see this posted at You Tube this morning, I had been going into "Lick Of The Week" withdrawals from Rock House Instructor/Artist Rob Balducci.

In this weeks edition Rob Demo's the newest member of his guitar collection, an Ibanez RGA Prestige. Balducci says, "This is an RGA Prestige but it has some custom modifications to it. It is very similar to what you can buy in the stores" and describes the color as "Bal-Cranburst"!

"This guitar has a swamp ash body, the neck is maple with a bubinga strip running through it all the way into the head stock. The Fretboard is maple and has a Libra symbol at the 11-13 frets, treble side dot markers.
The Bridge is an Ibanez Edge Zero which is my favorite bridge. The pick-ups are Dimarzio ofcourse. The neck is a Dimarzio Pro Track and and bridge is a Dimarzio Steve Special (named after Steve Blucher from Dimarzio). I have a 3 position toggle switch and a volume and tone knob, all of which have been moved down so my picking hand does not hit into them".

The tone speaks for itself on this one. I hope you guys dig it!

I suggest you go check out the Ibanez RGA Prestige guitars.

Gibson Acoustic Releases A Series Of 3 Limited Edition John Lennon Guitar Models

Seventy years after his birth and three decades after his untimely passing, John Lennon's message of peace continues to touch the masses, and his songs still resonate in the hearts and minds of fans around the world. At the request of Yoko Ono, Gibson Acoustic is very proud to offer three 70th Anniversary John Lennon J-160E acoustic guitars to celebrate the legacy of this extraordinary artist. Accordingly, only a very limited number of these handmade acoustics will ever be available. Born on October 9th 1940, John Lennon still remains one of the most significant voices in the music of our times. In 1962, John Lennon was still an up-and-coming artist, and though one of two main singer/songwriters at the heart of The Beatles, was scraping by on the little money the band was bringing in at that time. For his first quality American acoustic/electric guitar, Lennon had his sights set on a new Gibson J-160E — the problem was, he didn't have the money to buy it. With the aid of a co-signed purchase from Beatles manager Brian Epstein (who also co-signed for band mate George Harrison's J-160E), Lennon made the guitar his own, and put it straight to the business of making rock and roll history.

Vintage Sunburst
Recreated by the luthiers at Gibson's Montana acoustic guitar facility in period-perfect detail, the 70th Anniversary John Lennon models are available in three distinct versions to represent the instrument at three periods in Lennon's life and career. The first, finished in Vintage Sunburst and limited to 500 guitars, represents the guitar as it was when Lennon first acquired it and used it on several famous Beatles recordings from 1963 to '64, including Please Please Me, With The Beatles and A Hard Day's Night. Additional specs of the 70th Anniversary John Lennon J-160VS include a 70th Anniversary John Lennon MOP signature on the headstock, 1960's laminated Sitka Spruce Top, mahogany back and sides, the classic vintage Sunburst lacquer finish, Jumbo 1960's Frets, Gibson authentic P-90 pickups, a historic adjustable bridge and a 70th Anniversary MOP engraved 12th Fret birthdate of John Lennon. MSRP is $4,728 USD.

"Imagine" Soft White
The second is a stunning Custom Shop "Imagine" model in a Soft White finish personally requested by Yoko Ono to reflect the sentiment of John's life and music during the recording of Imagine. And the third is the model as it is today, on display at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, with a thin, natural finish and Lennon's famous "John and Yoko" caricature sketches, representing the appearance of the guitar during the famous Lennon-Ono "Bed-In" peace protests of 1969.

The custom shop's second and third renditions are limited to 70 guitars each, one for every year since John's birth in 1940, and both include a special 70th Anniversary Certificate personally signed by Yoko Ono and sent to the final purchaser by Certified Mail. The white Gibson Acoustic "Imagine" model includes an anniversary John Lennon Abalone headstock signature, 70th Anniversary MOP engraved 12th fret birthdate of Lennon, 1960s laminated Sitka Spruce tpo, historic Gibson Ladder bracing pattern, Mahogany back and sides, Jumbo 1960's Frets, historic adjustable bridge, Gibson authentic P-90 pickups and a custom hardshell case. As for construction, each version is an accurate rendition of the J-160E of 1962, a guitar originally released in 1954 as one of the world's first successful "electro-acoustic" guitars, with built-in pickup and electronics and ready to hit the stage for the professional performing musician. Beloved by Lennon, and kept close throughout his too-short life, the 70th Anniversary John Lennon J-160E is a guitar every Beatles fan will want to make their own. MSRP on the Imagine model is $10.748 USD.

Lennon Museum J-160E
The guitar specs of the Gibson Acoustic Lennon Museum J-160E model includes a Gibson Custom Shop Label Personally Signed by Yoko Ono, Authentic Recreation of John Lennon's Bed‐In Caricature Sketch, 70th Anniversary John Lennon MOP Headstock Signature, 70th Anniversary MOP Engraved 12th Fret Birth Date of John Lennon, Label Personally Signed by Yoko Ono, 1960's Laminated Sitka Spruce Top, Historic Gibson Ladder bracing Pattern, Mahogany Back & Sides, Custom Thin Lacquer Finish, Jumbo 1960's Frets, Historic Adjustable Bridge, Gibson Authentic P‐90 Pickup and a Gibson Custom Shop Hardshell case. MSRP on the Museum model is $15,048.00.

Yoko One herself has been quoted as saying , "Remember, each one of us has the power to change the world. Just start thinking peace and the message will spread quicker than you think." The Gibson Lennon acoustic models celebrate the peace that has lived on for years through John Lennon's music and Yoko Ono's staunch devotion to his memory and legacy.

"To say how proud I am of these new John Lennon Anniversary guitars is a huge understatement. The legacy that John Lennon has given music fans around the world is unprecedented and the friendship Gibson continues with Yoko Ono is demonstrated in these remarkable instruments that are in tribute to arguably one of the world's greatest musicians," said Henry Juszkiewicz Chairman and CEO of Gibson Guitar.

Gus G. and Firewind Release "World On Fire" Video

Rock House Instructor Gus G. and his band FIREWIND have just released their new video "World On Fire".

Gus G., currently on tour in Europe with Ozzy Osbourne, comments on the video as follows: “The video for ‘World on Fire’ was shot entirely on green screen and I think this time Patric Ullaeus has outdone himself! The concept is based on the album cover artwork and it's something we're doing for the first time on a video of ours. There's a barbaric vibe to it, lots of fire, metal warriors and even a Valkyrie. We're very pleased with the final result and we believe this is our best video yet. Check it out and let the FIREWIND rage on!”

More info on the video and tour dates can be found at http://www.firewind.gr and http://www.myspace.com/firewind

Freekbass with Headtronics Slated To Play MoogFest 2010

Headtronics, the intensive high energy band comprised of Rock House Instructor Freekbass along with Molitz and DJ Logic, will be playing at MoogFest 2010. Performimg with Headtronics will be the "Wizard of Woo"  Bernie Worrell on keyboards and Adam Deitch on drums. The event is October 29 -31, 2010 in Asheville, NC.

About MoogFest

The annual event honoring the remarkable vision of Robert Moog and his amazing musical inventions that changed the course of music – is reinventing itself. This year, moogfest 2010 will move from New York City to Asheville, NC – the place Bob Moog called home for the last 30 years of his life – and will expand to a 3-day, multi-venue event during the weekend of October 29 -31, 2010. During the festival, moogfest 2010 will host artists and audiences from throughout the world in different venues throughout Asheville’s beautiful, historic downtown.

Moogfest 2010 will celebrate Bob Moog’s legacy as a sonic pioneer, which will be the thread that unites the festival’s rich array of musical offerings. While the wide range of Moog instruments – the Minimoog Voyager, the Little Phatty, the Etherwave Theremin, Moogerfoogers, and the new Moog Guitar – will play prominent roles throughout the festival’s events, the artists performing will certainly not be limited to those who create their work on Moog instruments. Instead, artists will be chosen for their role in creating unique and groundbreaking musical experiences that embody the essence of Bob Moog’s visionary and creative spirit.
